In the US it was the strong gun-controlled states instituted such policies. At this time, Illinois is demanding that owners of "assault rifles" and magazines hold more than 10 rounds register them. Compliance is running at less than 1 percent. Connecticut and New York experienced similar situations upon demanding registration.

Good points. I think the strong emphasis being placed on eliminating the 2A by the US gov is evidence that they do think it's a problem for them. Much of the effect is invisible, similar to how criminal protection rackets thrive in strong gun control areas, but you don't actually get organized criminals being shot in the others. Your points are well taken, but don't discount the unseen effects.

Expand full comment

The 2nd amend. acts mainly as deterrent for the gov. If the government enacted a law that caused them to have to fight a little battle at most houses, they wouldn't be filling up the box cars as quickly or effectively, if the public was unarmed. The gov knows that there are laws that go too far, and so they are reluctant to try knowing they would lose control.

If you think an armed populace couldn't win against the better equipped and trained gov force

Then study what happened in Viet Nam, Cuba, or Afghanistan. The government knows it could not win, so it doesn't make laws that could or would provoke that outcome. The 2nd is a deterrent, and it works.

"The totalitarian states can do great things, but there is one thing they cannot do: they cannot give the factory-worker a rifle and tell him to take it home and keep it in his bedroom. That rifle hanging on the wall of the working-class flat or labourer's cottage, is the symbol of democracy. It is our job to see that it stays there." - George Orwell

“Among the many misdeeds of the British rule in India, history will look upon the Act of depriving a whole nation of arms as the blackest.”  Mahatma Gandhi

When you disarm the people, you commence to offend them and show that you distrust them either through cowardice or lack of confidence, and both of these opinions generate hatred. - Niccolo Machiavelli

"The notion that you can somehow defeat violence by submitting to it is simply a flight from fact. As I have said, it is only possible to people who have money and guns between themselves and reality." - George Orwell, 1941

"The most terrifying force of death, comes from the hands of men who wanted to be left alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over.

The moment the men who wanted to be left alone are forced to fight back, it is a form of suicide. They are literally killing off who they used to be. Which is why, when forced to take up violence, these men who wanted to be left alone, fight with unholy vengeance against those who murdered their former lives. They fight with raw hate, and a drive that cannot be fathomed by those who are merely play-acting at politics and terror. TRUE TERROR will arrive at these people's door, and they will cry, scream, and beg for mercy... but it will fall upon the deaf ears of the men who just wanted to be left alone." ~Soviet Dissident Alexander Solzhenitsyn.

The deliberate miseducation of the American people...the dumbing-down effect...was the brainchild of John D. Rottenfeller, the original Robber Baron. Recruiting "philosopher" John Dewey, along with old Yankee stalwart James Bryant Conant; Rottenfeller set about granting Columbia University massive funding for a college of education in that institution.

Columbia's college of edumacasion became the template for similar iterations right across the fruited plain.

Year by year and decade by decade, the educable young, forced to attend these governmentally controlled "public" schools, were gradually exposed to progressively less substantial courses, while psychologically bought off by intramural sports and similar diversions from a curriculum based upon the principle of inculcating and augmenting the capacity for original thought and critical faculties.

The devolution of true education has become so debased that the vast majority of high school graduates would be incapable of operating the "old-fashioned" cash-registers. Their mathematical skills have been so utterly debased by "new math" and related obfuscations of the learning process that their life-skills levels have consistently deteriorated.

There are many accounts of young "adults" not even being able to manage a simple checkbook. They cannot deal with cash in most transactions, rather bonding to electronic manifestations which are so thoughtlessly easy and convenient.

It's all a matter of pattern and design by the ruling financier elite.

From the movie "Ride With The Devil" 1999. Toby McGuire, Jewell and Skeet Ulrich

Note what is being said about the school... I believe that movie was the most accurate well done "Civil War" movie I've ever seen.

Mr. Evans: Have you ever been to Lawrence, Kansas, young man?

Chiles: No, I reckon not, Mr. Evans. I don't believe I'd be too welcome in Lawrence.

Mr. Evans: I didn't think so. Before this war began, my business took me there often. As I saw those Northerners build that town, I witnessed the seeds of our destruction being sown. The foundin' of that town was truly the beginnin' of the Yankee invasion. I'm not speakin' of numbers, nor even abolitionist trouble-makin'.

It was the schoolhouse. Before they built their church, even, they built that schoolhouse. And they let in every tailor's son... and every farmer's daughter in that country.

Chiles: Spellin' won't help you hold a plow any firmer. Or a gun either.

Mr. Evens: No, it won't, Mr. Chiles. But my point is merely... that they rounded every pup up into that schoolhouse... because they fancied that everyone should think... and talk the same free-thinkin' way they do... with no regard to station, custom, propriety. And that is why they will win. Because they believe everyone should live and think just like them. And we shall lose because we don't care one way or another...how they live. We just worry about ourselves.

Chiles: Are you sayin', sir, that we fight for nothin'?

Mr. Evans: Far from it, Mr. Chiles. You fight for everything that we ever had. As did my son.

In grade school, my teachers had a couple students who would get extra/advanced lessons to work out on our own while the rest of the class learned the lesson of the day. In jr high, they dropped the "tracking program, instead expecting the bright students to assist the mediocre & dim. That, naturally led to the bright being hated & bullied by the rest. I learned new lessons in the 1st 5 minutes of math & Spanish, then learned to sit quietly & entertain myself for hours. My grades dropped, the school recommended I be sent to private. The only fight my father ever won against my mother. "Education is wasted on girrrls!" he sneered.

So in my liberal school I learned to wait. First to wait to get out of school. Then to wait tables. Then to wait for a decent opportunity. Then to wait for a good opportunity. Then to wait to retire. Now I wait to die.

A George Carline rant full of truth:

But there’s a reason. There’s a reason. There’s a reason for this, there’s a reason education SUCKS, and it’s the same reason it will never, ever, EVER be fixed.

It’s never going to get any better, don’t look for it, be happy with what you’ve got.

Because the owners, the owners of this country don't want that. I'm talking about the real owners now, the BIG owners! The Wealthy… the REAL owners! The big wealthy business interests that control things and make all the important decisions.

Forget the politicians. They are irrelevant. The politicians are put there to give you the idea that you have freedom of choice. You don't. You have no choice! You have OWNERS! They OWN YOU. They own everything. They own all the important land. They own and control the corporations. They’ve long since bought, and paid for the Senate, the Congress, the state houses, the city halls, they got the judges in their back pockets and they own all the big media companies, so they control just about all of the news and information you get to hear. They got you by the balls.

They spend billions of dollars every year lobbying, lobbying, to get what they want. Well, we know what they want. They want more for themselves and less for everybody else, but I'll tell you what they don’t want:

They don’t want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don’t want well informed, well educated people capable of critical thinking. They’re not interested in that. That doesn’t help them. that's against their interests.

That's right. They don’t want people who are smart enough to sit around a kitchen table and think about how badly they’re getting f&$#%d by a system that threw them overboard 30 f&@&@%$g years ago. They don’t want that!

You know what they want? They want obedient workers. Obedient workers, people who are just smart enough to run the machines and do the paperwork. And just dumb enough to passively accept all these increasingly shitty jobs with the lower pay, the longer hours, the reduced benefits, the end of overtime and vanishing pension that disappears the minute you go to collect it, and now they’re coming for your Social Security money. They want your retirement money. They want it back so they can give it to their criminal friends on Wall Street, and you know something? They’ll get it. They’ll get it all from you sooner or later cause they own this f@&@%g place! It's a big club, and you ain’t in it! You, and I, are not in the big club.

By the way, it's the same big club they use to beat you over the head with all day long when they tell you what to believe. All day long beating you over the head with their media telling you what to believe, what to think and what to buy. The table has tilted folks. The game is rigged and nobody seems to notice. Nobody seems to care! Good honest hard-working people; white collar, blue collar it doesn’t matter what color shirt you have on. Good honest hard-working people continue, these are people of modest means, continue to elect these rich cock suckers who don’t give a f%@k about you….they don’t give a f@%k about you… they don’t give a F@&K about you.

They don’t care about you at all… at all… AT ALL. And nobody seems to notice. Nobody seems to care. that's what the owners count on. The fact that Americans will probably remain willfully ignorant of the big red, white and blue d@&k that's being jammed up their a%@$#*s everyday, because the owners of this country know the truth.

It's called the American Dream, because you have to be asleep to believe it. ~ George Carlin

I’ve always made a point of giving my children cash to use, once they get used to the notes and coinage they understand far better than numbers on a screen plus it helps no end mathematically.

From around 6+7 we gave them a budget to work with for Xmas presents which made them learn to budget on focusing on what they really wanted instead of lists of useless junk.

The oldest is now in an engineering apprenticeship, he turned down his spot at uni and also still works his Saturday job, he sets that money to one side for his car insurance, running and any maintenance needed.

Youngest is doing her A levels plus working 2-3 shifts on evening at McDonald’s and has a Saturday job also.

Both have friends who have worked far longer than them and never have single penny left at the end of the month waiting for the next payday, both mine have commented on the craziness of it.

The lack of parents participation in educating their children on finance skills is astounding and has made it so easy for the system to manipulate them.

My husband was reluctant when I wanted to introduce the budgeting idea for our children, he was more of buying whatever they wanted whenever they wanted, I brought him round by stating we’d be doing them no favours and the proof has been in the pudding where some of their peers have not a single idea on money management.

The good news from America is that not all hate speech is banned. Just as Germany in the 1930s condoned hate speech against Jews, here in the States today, hate speech against Trump is entirely condoned, even encouraged.

It's heartening to know that our government is so protective of our free speech, as long as we only say what they allow us to.

Expand full comment

We let them pass hate crime laws which makes it easier to pass hate speech laws. All a very slippery slope!

Expand full comment

Yes. I never saw hate crime laws as being some altruistic thing. After, if a person murders someone, is the degree to which they hated them really a factor. Try them and convict them for the murder, not the hate. In a free society, we are free to hate. It's not a crime. I don't recommend it, but it is a right.

Expand full comment

Common sense dictates that if someone murders someone else it surely isn't done with love in the perps heart. I've seen hate laws flipped totally due to race. If a black person murders a white person the chances of the black person being charged with a hate crime are very low. But the other way around? It HAS to be a hate crime because white people are the only ones that can be racist.

And much of this has nothing to do with hate speech. It is applied to smearing people who question crooked leadership and want investigations into wrongdoing regarding the electoral process. Whatever one's feeling is about hate crime laws, to a sane person it should be easy to tell the difference.

For thosev who haven't read Niemoller's (rediscovered?) prose written I think nearer the end of WWII:

“First they came for the Communists, but I was not a Communist so I did not speak out.

Then they came for the Socialists and the Trade Unionists, but I was neither, so I did not speak out.

Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in "fill in the city", when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with AR15's, Glocks, SIGS (USA VERSION) or whatever else was at hand?… The system would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of "the states" thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If…if…We didn’t love freedom enough. And even more – we had no awareness of the real situation…. We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.” - Aleksandr I. Solzhenitsyn , The Gulag Archipelago 1918–1956

Look CJ I feel so much affinity with your lashing out to the new normal reich (much bigger than Germany), something I unfortunately keep doing to my own detrimental position within friends and family, I would love to offer you and your wife a hide-out 100 km west of Berlin somewhere in the middle of nowhere in Sachsen-Anhalt from January 2nd to whenever you want. Quite comfortable and lots of likeminded around, not English speaking unfortunately. I keep my fingers crossed for whatever will happen next.

The absurdity of false-pride cowardice cops hiding behind ski masks in riot gear carrying guns the public is not allowed to brandish on the same street is…not hateful? How about the individuals who make the final call to lock someone in an inhumane prison or drops cluster bombs on people, whether it’s the very lazy-dumb or the too stupid-smart variety, like what’s happening in Palestine? Again, is that not hateful? I’m still trying to process how it’s not hate to be the individuals who invest, design, manufacture or orders the cops & soldiers to use these horrific weapons to murder people. Who’s more hateful? Are any of them hateful, at all, even mildly angry? And how do you accurately measure “bad” hate? How about those who will call me antisemitic for even asking these non-hateful, polite questions, or the people screaming in pain as they are being burned alive in the name of Zionism????

If I ever have to go kinetic it will be as follows...

TRUE TERROR will arrive at these people's door, and they will cry, scream, and beg for mercy... but it will fall upon the deaf ears of the men who just wanted to be left alone." ~Soviet Dissident Alexander Solzhenitsyn https://www.courageouslion.us/p/i-just-want-to-be-left-alone

I believe at moments like the photo above they are sending in very particular types of privately or covert operators and not your standard cops. Operations I've seen have all the fingerprints of operators outside the norm using communications outside the system.

The whole good cop/bad cop question can be disposed of much more decisively. We need not enumerate what proportion of cops appears to be good or listen to someone's anecdote about his Uncle Charlie, an allegedly good cop. We need only consider the following: (1) a cop's job is to enforce the laws, all of them; (2) many of the laws are manifestly unjust, and some are even cruel and wicked; (3) therefore every cop has agreed to act as an enforcer for laws that are manifestly unjust or even cruel and wicked. Therefore there are no good cops. ~Dr. Robert Higgs
