Nico Perrino, So to Speak

I don’t normally send these interview posts out to everyone via email, because I don’t like to flood folks’ in-boxes with every little thing. I usually just upload them into the Interviews/Press section of my Substack and leave it at that. I’m making an exception this time because (a) I’m a bit under the weather, and not up to banging out a column, and (b) I want to promote FIRE and the “So to Speak” podcast.

If you’re one of my American readers, you’re probably already familiar with FIRE, i.e., The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression. If you’re not, basically, they are like what the ACLU used to be back when it was still the ACLU. FIRE started off over 20 years ago defending freedom of speech, due process, and other individual rights in higher education. Since 2022, they’ve been expanding the scope of their work into the broader world. You can read about that on the FIRE website if you’re interested.

Anyway, I had a great talk with Nico Perrino, FIRE’s Executive Vice President, on the biweekly podcast he does for them, “So to Speak.” The podcast has been running for a while, but it’s just getting started on Substack. This interview is their first one on the platform. I hope you’ll share it and help Nico and FIRE get their Substack thing going.

As for me, I’ll be back in business relatively soon, hopefully with a column that’s not about my case for a change.
